"taiping" Word Study

Tai Ping Guang Ji(《太平广记》), which was edited at the King's command by Li Fang(李昉) et al of the early Song Dynasty, collected lots of stories about anecdotes and unofficial history. These works take a long period of time, keeping the characteristics in middle ages, keeping a number of dialectal words in middle ages, and also keeping the essence of producing novels which ranges from Early Qing Dynasty and Han Dynasty to the early Song Dynasty. But judging from colloquialism translation and the current situation about the study of Tai Ping Guang Ji, It still needs further study about the words in it.I have divided this dissertation into four interrelated chapters. ChapterⅠintroduces Tai Ping Guang Ji and it's editor——Li Fang et al, and then the current situation about the study of Tai Ping Guang Ji is also reviewed in aspects of the study of index, literature and colloquialism translation. ChapterⅡdiscusses its value in studying Chinese language. The value involves four aspects: dictionary, character phonology and dialect. ChapterⅢputs emphasize on the textual research of some characteristic words such as"髣髴"""and so on, analyzing their fountainhead meaning and their developing meanings. Much research can supplement the explaining shortage of dictionaries and precursory research. Some words, which need further textual research, are put in ChapterⅣ. ChapterⅤis epilogue.This dissertation exposes the aspects and value of the words and expressions in Tai Ping Guang Ji, which can supplement the shortage of large-scale dictionaries, such as Great Chinese Dictionary(《汉语大词典》) Great Chinese Dialect Dictionary (《汉语方言大词典》) et al。Maybe this paper can make the researchers attach more importance to the words and expressions in Tai Ping Guang Ji. It will contribute to the research on words in it and in modem Chinese, to the colloquialism translation and its spread from mouth to mouth.
