Guichi Nuo Masks Digital Graphic Design

Guichi Nuo opera, a part of China Nuo, is the "Villagers' Nuo" mentioned in the Analects.It is the ancient Chinese opera art form featured in wearing a mask for the performance, and aims at pleasing God ancestors, flooding and epidemics, and entertaining both gods and human beings. All the villagers volunteer to participate in Guichi Nuo opera activities, but women are not permitted to join it. The mask is a kind of pictorial art, a special area with unique cultural connotation and modeling features which formed at the early stage of human civilization's development. Because the visual information it reflects is more concentrated and pure, the mask can cause the audience's visual attention and psychological react in a relatively short time. So it is widely used in many artistic media and is developing in multiple trends.Based on the further study of GuiChi Nuo masks, this paper analyses the characteristicsof Nuo masks on the shape, color, material, the Nuo opera props, and the environment. Considering modern high-technology, and using new forms such as computer technology, folk art and folk culture industries , the paper points out to use digital graphic design to protect and inherit Guichi Nuo masks. It suggests to carry out a comprehensive research of Guichi Nuo masks and traditional culture of Chizhou Nuo opera .This paper tries to use digital graphic design and art theory to establish a digital interactive platform of Graphic Design of Nuo masks, and use the platform to communicate through the network, exchange, and in the end apply it in related cultural industry. In particular, it can establish Guichi Nuo opera exclusive brands.
