The Valley Strokes Study

This dissertation is a fire-new research into the techniques of writing calligraphy of Huang Tingjian ,Huang Shangu was his another name, in which the author focused on Huang's special writing techniques and explored the interior of Huang's calligraphy deeply. By studying and organizing the picture examples of Huang's works and relative history literature information, the author drew a conclusion that there were three main stroke configurations and five main form factors in Huang's calligraphy. Further more,on the basis of comparing and analyzing the inherent relations between them and their forming reasons, the author found out the inherent rules and their value of aesthetics in Huang's calligraphy. In the reasoning process, the author put forward his unique opinions on the forming history of Huang's writing, the phenomena of the linking dot strokes, and the forming reasons of Huang's special strokes in writing, etc.
