Under the strong pressure of the West, the complex relationship between Confucian tradition and the western liberalism was established, which was not existed originally. There are mainly three academic schools which analyzed the relationship between Confucian tradition and western liberalism, such as Western liberalism, Confucian liberalism and Neo-Confucianism. A variety of Analysis and Judgment Methods were formed by these academic schools, for example: tectonic theory, transforming theory, phase theory, multi-cultural theory, and cultural hermeneutics. It became the common concern discussing whether the concept of freedom existed in the Confucian tradition, in order to analyze the relationship between Confucian tradition and the western liberalism.Analysis of view should start with analyzing different theoretical logic and methodology, and choosing our own value of position from different academic disputes. The author attempts to analyze the relationship of the Confucian tradition and the western liberalism on the tone of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. With this theoretical path and purpose, the Methodology which is different from the liberalism and neo-Confucianism would be formed, such as Practicable theory, to make Confucian tradition and western freedom as two equal body, new cultural hermeneutics, the local structure theory.This text interpretation searching for freedom in the Confucian tradition must be the only stop at the similarity between some thoughts of Confucian tradition and freedom concept of western liberalism. They tried to interpret some elements of Confucian thoughts as freedom in order to converge Confucian tradition and the western liberalism. With the expectation of the freedom concept of socialism with Chinese characteristics, we need to assimilate the distillation of Confucian tradition and its similarity with western liberalism, but not to dress it up as freedom.The difference in spirit is existed between them. The similarity between them is in appearance, bet the difference is in assent. Therefore, the bridge between Confucian tradition and western liberalism built by some thinkers is not as strong as envisaged.Confucian tradition can not be interpreted as freedom does not mean that freedom is incompatible with the Confucian tradition, and that the Confucian tradition is inferior to the western liberalism. Western liberalism and the Confucian tradition just form an indispensable complementary in the theoretical distinctions, and they both have their respective theoretical advantages and disadvantages.Finally, the paper pointed out the significance of analyzing the relationship between Confucian tradition and the western liberalism in promoting the concept of freedom of socialism with Chinese characteristics. On this basis, the author brought forward some history tasks of forming the freedom concept of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
