At the end of 1970s, Lingli was known by her historical novel《Xing Xing Cao》in the literary world of new times. Later her creative work《Shao Nian Tian Zi》gained her the third Mao Dun Literature Prize. Her profound cultural and historical foundation, original intention of humanities, rich and delicate female perspective and the ability to control tremendous works were the bright views in the historical novels, which caused great concern to the literary critics. This essay studies Lingli's novel creation, relevant theoretical articles and thoughts on creation. It also does a preliminary screen and presentation on the levels of the novels' historical awareness, cultural implication, artistic characteristics and female perspective and so on in order to find out more values of the novels. The essay contains four parts as followings.Part one, profound impact of historical awarenessLingli thought rationally about history, relying on her profound historical foundation and wise and farsighted thoughts. She set an original historical conception of her own. Her historical novels always take practicality and rationality as a kernel of value, which has a distinct care of the times; Folk histories that could not miss the presence in her novels echoed with official histories; Her diversification open eyes focused on the occasion of the rise and fall of dynasties. Such dialectical historical materialism enabled her works to understand and master the process of human history.Part two, hard exploration of cultural implicationMost Lingli's writings after《Xing Xing Cao》used culture and humanistic thinking as the novels' perspective, which showed a strong indication of the author's efforts and expectations to the national culture reconstruction. On one hand, Lingli focused on developing and introspecting the traditional national culture, absorbing its essence while criticizing its inertness; on the other hand, she re-examined the western culture within the context of the globalization, hoping to understand and develop herself better by comparing with the different culture.Part three, potential return of female perspective As a female writer, Lingli is unique in mental quality, life perspective and the way of thinking, because of which she is different from male writers in choosing or portraying the images of women and in narrative or rhetoric. But Lingli's female consciousness is traditional and calm. She stresses that the interdependent relationship is stronger than the confrontational one between males and females.Part four, aesthetic characteristics directed at the heartLingli's scholar quality and poet temperament helped her find a balance between history and aesthetic appreciation in her works. Her creation was guided by the principle known as "arbitrary but not contrary to the historical facts"; Meanwhile her novels voluntarily combined with a rich humanity, transforming history into a living heart and love history.
