Qing Dynasty Qianlong And Jiaqing Period Of "jin" Research

Book of the Jin Dynasties was written and compiled during the Tang Dynasty. compiled by many scholars in short term, it had many problems and defects, such as omissions in terms of content, drawing materials improperly, contradiction at the beginning and the ending of the content, all kinds of characters mistakes and historical facts mistakes, etc. In the long run of circulation, missing words mistakes in hand-written copies and reprinting editions accumulate as time passes by. The book was evaluated and revised by successive dynasties, while it has not been through systematic research until the period of Qianlong and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty. Apart from researching Confucian classics, scholars of the period of Qianlong and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty did scholarly research on history, and they systematically sifted the important documents of Chinese history, hence Book of the Jin Dynasties was no exception. As the situation remained tense and volatile through Jin dynasties, characters, events, geographical areas, years and official of all ranks were diverse and confused, and the matter was too complicated to straighten out, for this reason, scholars of the period of Qianlong and Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty devoted their energies to the cause of collating, adding and correcting, studying and explaining different textual materials, and open discussion on Book of the Jin Dynasties. Their efforts laid a solid foundation for following studies and made study of Book of the Jin Dynasties much easier. Afterwards, more synthesizing work of checking, annotating and adding memorials and chronicles were based on their achievements. Unfortunately, the scholars'achievements have not been sorted out and systematically reviewed so far. This thesis carefully and systematically sorts out the scholars'achievements, making clear what kind of work had been done, namely, to know what concrete problems they have resolved, to what extent they have added and enlarged materials and what level of understanding they have achieved, through this process, to further know their textual research methods, approaches and their thoughts on history, and at the same time, to try to grade them by examining their research methods and different thoughts on history. Through this, the thesis will make people know their efforts, fully learn from their achievements and excellent research methods, so as to make good use of the materials and precisely master their skills on compiling, drawing materials, writing and applying their knowledge and insights about history.
