The existential construction, representing a typical feature of Chinese as a topic-prominent language, is a special kind of sentence pattern in modern Chinese.Based on the existing researches of existential construction in the field of Chinese Language, the present thesis attempts to clarify the definition standards, scope and classification of existential construction. After data investigation on the native-language corpus, nine sub-constructions are defined according to its syntactic and semantic features and use frequency.According to the nine sub-constructions of the existential construction, the thesis conducts a systematical research on the use of this sentence pattern in the inter-language corpus: analyze the correct use of existential construction by foreign students to find out the longitudinal development features of existential construction acquisition; analyze the erroneous use and investigate the causes from the perspectives of inter-lingual interference , intra-lingual interference and cognitive psychology; compared with the use frequency of the existential construction by native speakers to figure out the differences and make sure whether an avoiding tendency exists or not; and finally the acquisition order of the existential constructions is obtained through applying the methods of Correction Frequency, Proficiency of Intervals and Implicational Scaling, combining with the former analysis.In order to get a comprehensive view of the existential construction acquisition , the present research conducts a test to survey the acquisition of the relevant constructions which have a substitutive relationship with existence construction and appear-disappear construction: compared with the contrastive group(the Chinses students), it is revealed that the main substituted patterns of the existence constructions is "N_P+zai+L_P","N_P+Vzai+ L_P" and "N_P +zai+L_P+V+zhe", and the main substitutions of appear-disappear constructions is "L_P+ (you) +N_P+V_P" and "N_P+cong+L_P+V_P".At last, based on the error analysis, the acquisition characteristics and the acquisition order of the existential constructions, some suggestions about selecting and sequencing the existential constructions in main syllabus and textbooks are given.
