An Adverb Of Time For The Affirmation And Negation Of Symmetry And Asymmetry

Since the 20th century, as the academic theory become more and more active, adverbs research has been the one of the focus payed by many scholars. The research has got considerable development whether in the theory or in TCSL, and the research perspective is not only confined to structuralism, but also combined with function, cognition and some other perspective to explain. In TCSL, adverb teaching has been the focus and difficulty. And the affirmation and negation involve many aspects in Chinese study. So the affirmation and negation of adverb frequently encountered. Foreign students like analogy when studying affirmation and negation, but in languages there are lots of asymmetries between affirmation and negation. So mistakes appear when encountered the asymmetries. But in theory we haven't found that there is any systematic adverb research under the perspective of affirmation and negation, only a few scholars discuss the issue in some single papers, but there is no detailed and deep analysis. So on the base of corpus from the North Corpus, 800 words in modern Chinese and other reference book, this paper mainly choose some time adverbs to describe the affirmation and negation and explain the inner system under the semantic and pragmatic perspective ,based on functional grammar, cognitive linguistics and so on. We hope the paper can give some help to the theory and the teaching. The paper is mainly divided into four chapters:chapter 1 is the introduction, which first points out the object of study and the reasons and significance of choosing this topic, and then reviewed the present status of this issue and the problems existed. On this basis, this paper presents its own research ideas and methods.Chapter 2 is the basis of the paper, which mainly discusses the definition of the time adverbs and its extension defined. At the same time, combining with the various scope and "outline of Chinese Vocabulary level", the part gives the scope of time adverbs involved in the paper. Also, it reviewed various classification system of time adverbs, which prepares for the next chapter's classification of time adverbs in affirmative and negative perspective.Chapter3 and 4 is main parts of the paper. Chapter 3 presents two perspectives—"time adverbs modify affirmative and negative structure "and " the order when negative adverbs and time adverbs appear simultaneously", and describes the asymmetry between affirmation and negation of time adverbs according to the two perspective to re-classify the time adverbs non-traditionally. Meanwhile, we give the cognitive explanation to the second perspective; and the first perspective is the focus of the inspection of affirmation and negation of time adverbs. Chapter 3 mainly does the classification and description of the phenomenon on the basis of the first perspective. Chapter 4 tries to explain the asymmetry described in the first perspective on the basis of cognitive linguistics and functional grammar. And it involved in semantic and pragmatic explanation. Finally, the paper does the summary and pointed out the shortcoming and the issue needed further research, and the put forward the future.The paper does the systematic and deep analysis on the asymmetry of affirmation and negation of time adverbs. The innovation lies in: (1) we put forward a new criterion—affirmation and negation to systematically and fully classify the time adverbs, especially we defined the scope of affirmative and negative time adverbs again; (2) under the new classification system, we advised two perspectives and described the asymmetry of affirmation and negation about time adverbs in the two perspective; (3) we do the semantic and pragmatic explanation and analysis on the asymmetry of time adverbs' affirmation and negation deeply.
