Korean Variety Show Foreign Language Study

The South Korean TV variety show is very popular. It is a form of entertainment program. TV variety show usually has special contents and forms without restraint of style. Some of the programs always use words of foreign origin. Those words appear in program names, tectonic plate names,subtitles,and spoken language of actors,and they stem from English generally. This research attempts to analyse these English original words used in Korean TV variety show programs. We will make details in when,where, how and why they use the words. We want to make every effort to promulgate the South Korean entertainment program's language characteristic, and unfold South Korean's language life from a side.This article includes the bellowing parts: The introduction, mainly elaborates the selected topic,the research background, the theory basis as well as the research technique.The first chapter analyses program names and the tectonic plate names, as well as the written form of foreign original words used during the programs. We found that when used independently, these foreign original words generally appear in forms of word, phrase and short sentence. When they are mixed with the Korean Language, the relationship between the two parts includes: subjects and predicates, to modify and to be modified, equal standing,and supplement relation etc.To attract audiences' attention,and initiate their curiosity, the program name and the tectonic plate name tends to use foreign original words. They use written form to show the rules of game, to describe the atmosphere, and to introduce performer's performance etc.The second chapter is mainly analysing the goals and conditions of code switching during the programs. The goals mainly including:to exaggerate the atmosphere of the program, to show off one's foreign language ability, to follow certain rules of a game,to express in a more appropriate way, to emphasize some information or details, to express contains tactfully with and so on. The condition of code switching include external and intrinsic condition. The external condition is as follows: someone whose foreign language is more skilled than the native language tends to transfer to foreign language easily. The intrinsic condition diverts the loan word which the Korean language does not exist originally. Through the contrast with related researches,we discovered that: the code switching between English or loan word and Korean appears frequently in variety show programs. Most of them are Conscious transformation. Some of the switching to foreign original words served certain purpose,but some did not. Last part is the conclusion. The research conclusion indicated that the foreign original words use is a double-edged sword: It will be acceptable if used suitably to pursue the program effect. But use them excessively,even abuse the words will be harmful. It will not only bring difficulties to the understanding of ordinary audiences,but also affect the Korean language's naive. The broadcasting workers should take responsibility for their language use. They should use foreign original words more accurately and correctly. It would be better that the Korean people work hard on their mother tongue pure purification.
