After the opium war,along with the opening of the China,many foreign missions with the bomb of the foreign invader come to China to preaching in China.Shantung became one of the first preaching regions because of its special history and location.APM(the American Prebyterian Mission)was the second mission coming after SBC(the Southern Baptist Convention).From the Galeys and Danforths first arriving in Shantung to American missionaries leaving China,APM have went through nearly one hunderd years.In this period APM have made deep influence in the developting of the province of Shantung.This thesis focus on the acivities of missionaries of Shantung,using the knowledge of history,sociology,religious.The activites of APM include the preaching,education,medical,relief and others society activites.In the history of APM in Shantung,it construted including Tengchow, Chefoo,Jinan Weixian,Yizhou,Jining,Qingtao,Yixien,Tengxian nine preaching regions,covering nearly the whole province.It construted lots of elementary and middle schools and a famous college—Cheeloo university.It construted many modem hospitals and the colleges of medicine.Another contribution of APM in Shantung was the relief works done by the missionaries.But the development of APM was not without any difficult.It went through the change of the modern chinese society,it went through the Boxer Rebellion,the movement of antichiristian the War of Resistance against Japan,and the chinese chistian belivers'independent movement.With this difficult the mission take many messures to change its policies and attitude.It made deep constribufion to the development of the modernlization of the provine of Shantung.This thesis focus on the acivities of missionaries of Shantung,including the preaching,education,medical,relief and others society activites.This thesis introduce the development of APM,the changing of its policies and attitudes of preaching in its history of preaching and the methods it chosening The whole article include eight parts,the fist explains why APM arrived in Shantung to preach chritian,the second and the third parts introduce the developmen history of the mission,the fourth part mainly about the preaching methond of the church and the promotion of the chinese independent movement,the fifth part mainly introduce the history and features of its education,ithe sixth part mainly introduce the history and features of its medical.,the seventh part mainly introduce the relief work of the missionaries and some famous miassionaries and their mainly activites,the last part mainly introduce the influence of APM in Shantung scoities.This thesis disert the traditional options"missionary is the tool of the foreign invaders",using the option of exchange of the east and west culture and the"Modernization"analyse the activites of APM.This thesis attempt to through the analyse of the development of APM in province of Shantung province revealing the relations of the foreign mission and the Chinese society and revealing the the influence of the foreign mission on the modernlization of china.
