American policy toward Czechoslovakia between1945 and 1948 is a microcosm of United States policy toward Eastern Europe in the early cold war period. During this period the policy of the United States reflects its global expansion strategy. The containment policy of Czechoslovakia services this strategy. American policy toward Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1948 have a formation process. The international situation as well as the policies response to the Soviet Union are important to formate the Policy. The policy can be divided into three stages:The first stage, about the Soviet Union liberating Czechoslovakia, the United States is default, but it does not give up fighting for Czechoslovakia. About the question of the liberation of Czechoslovakia, in view of the US-Soviet wartime alliance and the US-Soviet sphere of influence of the division, the United States didn't give up the region: after the World Warâ…¡, America demanded Soviet Union to withdraw troops at the same time ,and then asked the Soviet Red Army to liberate the Czechoslovakia by default. so the United States utilized economic assistance as a means to impact the political developments in Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1947. America tried to make Czechoslovakia out of the control by the Soviet Union. The second stage, the United States stepped up its offensive against Czechoslovakia. The United States launched the Marshall Plan in 1947.Though the United States knew very well that the Soviet Union could not accept the conditions of the Marshall Plan, Czechoslovakia was included. It was in order to drive a wedge between Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia relationship. After the Czechoslovakia refused the Marshall Plan, the United States suspended the aids and reduced its trade. The third stage, after the"events of February" in 1948, the the Soviet Union stepped up its control of the Czechoslovakia. During this period, the United States imposed the "covert actions" to eliminate or weaken the impacts of the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe. "covert actions", that is, through covert political warfare, economic warfare, psychological warfare and hostile propaganda, in order to weaken the rule of the Soviet Union in Czechoslovakia.Overall, because of the interaction the Soviet Union and America ,the United States the containment policy toward the Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1948 was gradually formed.
