Jean Baudrillard, who is comprehensive in academic fields and unique in academic style, has a far-ranging influence on the Occident and even the whole world. He adhered to Marx and then deviated from him. This process is worthy for researchers who study on Marxist theory to ruminate upon.Baudrillard' s early thought is the basis of his entire academic thought, germinating his following thinking, but the domestic research on Baudrillard, especially on his early correlation with Marx has not yet been fully carried out. This dissertation focuses on the early correlation between Baudrillard and Marx. Firstly it starts with Baudrillard' s early texts to establish a brief carding on his early thoughts on three aspects.Secondly it analyses and reviews the content of Baudrillard' s early thought from Marx' s perspective.Thirdly it responds the criticism of Baudrillard on Marx.Baudrillard' s early thought contains an intrinsic pedigree, which is from the "metaphysics of objects" to "social critical theory on consumption" and then to "the political economy of symbols".He parses the contemporary society into a society which is filled with objects(commodity) and controlled by the latter. In this society, the logic of consumption has become a new ideology and has controlled people's minds.Baudrillard believes that this aberrant intrinsic logic is the logic of symbol. On his opinion, the fully symbolization of objects leads to the alienation of consumption and it recurs to "symbolic exchange" to overcome this alienation.Upon that he targets the theory of production to criticize Marx's theories.Basically,Baudrillard's early academic position could be attributed to Marxist camp, especially considering that he criticizes objects through Marx' s theory of alienation. His theory of consumer society seems to follow the path of Marx' s,but it has actually slid into metaphysics of symbols.Baudrillard' s early criticism on Marx is not divorced from the influence of Western traditional metaphysics, and his non-historic understanding on Marx's theory of production can not exceed Marx. Therefore, that he points out the way to overcome alienation, namely "symbolic exchange",is just a utopian fantasy at last.
