Since the 90s of 20th century Charles Saatchi has been recognized as one of the most important contemporary art collectors for his complicated identities, unique aesthetic taste, controversial mode and strategy of collecting and great influence on both British and international comtenporary art. Whereas the research of such a significant collector is quite nascent both domestic and abroad, his actual impact and importance on British and global market, academia, system and ecology of contemporary art has not been reviewed and analyzed roundly. At present only few books and essays have discussed it in-depth and there is the obvious absence of study about Saatchi and his collection in Collecting History, Art Market History, Arts Management and some other subjects especially in China. Thus on such background, this essay will try to represent the true process and characteristics of Saatchi's collecting and discuss its significance and value for British and international contemporary art.
