In the background of globalization, with the development of anthropology of music, anthropological interpretation and other disciplines, the multicultural music education has become the mainstream of international music education. Following the international trend, the present paper, theoretically supported by anthropology of music, culture of music, anthropology of education and post-modern philosophy, is to deconstruct monism in the mainstream music education system. The study is on the premise of the respecting the laws of education's self-development and in accordance with the idea of"culture of music". And based on the results of previous theoretical studies and the specific education conditions of the multi-ethnic province—Yunnan, a multi-cultural music education in ethnic minority areas, where theory should be combined with practice in order to achieve a multicultural music education, should be constructed. What's more, the practice should also be on the premise of culture equality, for the purpose of understanding local music culture, on the basis of inheritance and development in native music culture, and guaranteed by world music culture understanding. A correct view should be taken in dealing with the relationship between Chinese mainstream culture and the traditional ethnic minority culture, and dialectical relationship between "pluralism" and"monism". Therefore, with the government support, expert guidance and the practice of teachers, a multicultural music education pattern with distinctive national features should be actively built in this big family.
