This paper mainly analyses the syntactic context and pragmatic aspect of "laizhe". Except for conclusion, the paper has five parts.Part one introduces the current situation and the existing problems of "laizhe" as well as theories, methods and language sources employed in this paper.Part two mainly explores the syntactic situation in which "laizhe" appears. Considering the limitations of the description of the syntactic situations in which "laizhe" appears by scholars nowadays, this paper explores the syntactic context of "laizhe" through real life language sources: the circumstances that "laizhe" appears in a sentence; the predicate of the sentence in which "laizhe" appears is not merely confined to verbs, it can be adjectives and time words as well; "laizhe" may coexist with negative word in order to give a detailed description.Part three explores what part of speech "laizhe" belongs to. After a great many review of the language resources, the paper puts forward that "laizhe" belongs to modal particle. It argues from four aspects: the debates concerning the part of speech that "laizhe" belongs to by scholars nowadays, the expression of time in the sentence "laizhe" appears, the features of "laizhe" as modal particle and finally, the attachments of "laizhe". Part four analyses expressions of time and aspect of the sentence in which "laizhe" appears. It explores from four respects: argumentations about time and aspect according to Modern Chinese, the debates by scholars concerning the properties of time and aspect of "laizhe", the expression of time in the sentence where "laizhe" appears, the expression of aspect in the sentence where "laizhe" appears. It concludes that in a strict sense, "laizhe" is not the grammatical means.Part five mainly analyses the function of the expression of mood by "laizhe". It explores from two aspects: the modal meaning of "laizhe", the mild tone and exposure tone of "laizhe".Conclusion: "laizhe" develops with the development of language reality. Our knowledge of "laizhe" may well advance with the advance of time. The syntactic context of "laizhe" and the expressions of time and aspect in the sentence in which "laizhe" appears show that "laizhe" may be considered as modal particle, which better conforms to the language reality of modern Chinese. "laizhe", as modal particle, can express various modal meanings and implied meanings.
