During the new historical period of China, Zhao Yaomin has been one of the most important playwrights in the mainland of China and his comedies especially make him more impressive than others in the same circle. Zhao Yaomin's comedies focus on the description and expression of the absurdity of life, combining the form of comedy and the contents of tragedy, showing the artistic characteristics of the modern tragicomedy. In his comedies, as the absurd comic plots go to the climax, the tragic meanings in the fate of characters and the contents of the works are at the peak. The symbols and metaphors with the artistic themes can be often found in Zhao Yaomin's comedies and expound on the philosophy which is contained in the meanings. In the comedies, questions are always raised about real life without making judgments and at the same time, the paradoxical themes are presented. This reflects that Zhao Yaomin's comedies are influenced by the modernity of enlightenment and the modernity of reassessment, just recording the similar complicated historical situation which the Chinese society had been experienced. For the aesthetic and spiritual construction of the Chinese contemporary comedies, Zhao Yaomin has made valuable exploration and practice.
