Wittgenstein is an important philosopher and linguist in the history of western philosophy, and his two different philosophical views in his life have been influencing the western philosophy. His early philosophical views had a deep influence on Vienna Circle and his later view had finally promoted the emergence of linguistic turn of the western philosophy. This essay mainly sorts out some important ideas of Wittgenstein on the basis of some scholars' studies. His philosophical ideas are divided into three periods, including early, later and transitional periods. Then the essay makes a conclusion about the linguistic view according to his philosophical ideas. In the early period, he mainly researched on logical language that was also ideal language. In transitional period, he made a self-reflection about his early views, which paved the way for his later views. In the later period, he turned to research on ordinary language, and put forward his famous view-language game. In the end of the essay, the writer has got several questions. Whether family members have similarities or not? How to measure the degree to which these similarities have in family members? Wittgenstein denied that there existed a common family resemblance among languages, and futher denied that language had an essence. According to the above analysis of the three different periods of Wittgenstein's ideas, the questions are, whether languages on earth have essence or not? How to prove it? The essay aims to attract scholars' attention to do some further research on language, and lets people realize that language is essential for human beings.
