Christine de Pizan was the first professional female writer in Western Europe, and her works represented a new stage of female literature. She was the first women who dared to defence women against man's authority. Her thoughts on women influenced on later feminists. This paper, depends on her primary works about women and the backgrounds of later Middle Age, will discuss and analysis her view of women, and this involves the following parts:Part one briefly outline the social and cultural background of her age. Thanks to her open-minded father, Christine interested in learning deeply and her father educated her when she was young. But when she was twenty-five years old, she lost her dear father and loving husband. Her happy life was over, but she didn't remarry. She decided to be an writer. At that time, misogyny was prevailed widely and women were seriously misunderstood by the whole society. And at the same time, many people worshipped the Virgin Marry and lots of knights interested in courtly love, many women, because of their good qualities, became the Goddess of knights. Two definitely different opinions walked together for a long time. Influenced by this culture, Christine linked her experience and created her unique view of women.Part two is mainly about how she formed her view of women and what's it about. She formed her view of women by her works:"The Letter of the God of Love" was the beginning, the letters in the debate of the "Romance of Rose" means hers awakeness, and "The Tale of the Shepherdess" showed us the truth that women were always the one who was hurt in love, not the one who caused hurt. The most famous works about women were "The City of Ladies" and "Three Virtues of Ladies". These two works can be called the first female history written by women and the most practical handbook for women at that time. And after that, Christine rarely mentioned women problems in her works. The content of her view of women involves four aspects:the statues of women, women's ethics, women's education and the behaviour of women in love and marriage. Christine believe that women play an important role in history and modern life, for their invented lots of things which made our life more comfortable and convenient. And God let men and women appears differently because in this way both men and women can serve for him in their own ways, not because men are superior to women. If women treat her families, masters, fellows and her servants rightly, they can be an women with great virtues and people should show their respect to them. She thought that men and women were equally sane, so they both should be educated, although the content need not be the same. And the last thing I discuss in this part is the behaviour of women in love and marriage, especially the behaviour of wife.Part three analysis the reason why she can form that view of women and the characteristics of it. Christine's view of women affected by personal factors, such as family members, transform of fortune and her strong mind, and the external factors as well, such as cultural background. She was the first female writer who finished the first female history and called for the respect of women. Her works on women behaviour was the most detailed handbook of that time, but she also could not get rid of the limitations perfectly. The great career Christine has radically began finally ended conservatively. In the last part I sort out the comments on Christine and simplely compare her view of women with famous feminist Mary Wollstonecraft's view of women. Depend on the comparison, we can see the differences between them which can prove that Christine and feminist does not mean the same thing. At the end I conclude that we could not treat Christine as a feminist, her great contribution lies in the areas of literature, history, phylosopy and etc. We should call her a great women in history and a great scholar in Middle Ages.
