Public Art And Urban Image

China is currently in the process of rapid urbanization and economic growth, many cities are in the surge of urban environment construct. Some cities can't rational understand the affection of urban design and public art design, resulting in urban style fuzzy, functional division of confusion. Architectural style is becoming more and more popular, cultural diversity and geographical features have be denied or forgotten. Lacking of cultural content make many new cities are becoming environment and spirit desert. Public art design hasn't be the idea of a guide; lack of originality has become a common problem in China. People have begun to worry about the "fruits" of economic globalization. More and more cities have realized the positive value of their own cultural traditions, and began to create new and unique cultural image based on the cultural traditions.This thesis takes the public art design of Xia Hu Bei An Culture Park, Kang Bashi New District, Ordos City as a example, through the theoretical explanation, examples show, concern about urban culture and research public art design.Public art design can reflect the urban design, urban functions, urban history, urban geography, urban culture and urban life style from inside. Public art works should contain the city's internal factors, reflect the city's features quality and promote the city's cultural spirit. Construction of public art should be an effective way to boost the urban competitiveness.
