Yi Jian Zhi Song Urban Folklore Research

"Yi Jian Zhi" is a voluminous collection of classical Chinese Ghost Stories, with totally 420 book volumes and heterogeneous contents including medicine, food, burial, marriage, religion and other aspects. Although the collection is mainly about ghost, it demonstrates to readers the social reality of life in all aspects of the Song Dynasty to the fully extent, thus being a great literature work with value of historial data.This paper develops from the standpoint of folklore, analyzing the chapter of record about the folk life. This paper has been divided into four parts. The introduction part sets forth the purpose and significance of this research, outline of the research inside and outside as well as the necessities of the research on the urban residents'life of Song Dynasty. The first chapter takes the stories of the urban residents of "Yi Jian Zhi" as the textual material,introducing the folk custom phenomenon recorded. The second chapter develops a further analysis on the urban folk custom phenomenon from a cultural standpoint. The third chapter discusses the later influence on literature of the folk custom phenomenon.
