The V + To + X "research

"dao" is one of the most frequently used words in modern Chinese. So far, various theories have been used to analyze the problems and sentence patterns related with "dao". However, most of the previous research has a narrow perspective. Therefore, it's of great necessity to research this problem in a much wider theoretical perspective.The 1st chapter is a preface. The purpose and significance of the research is stated, the research scope is defined and the theoretical methods and the corpus sources are introduced.In the 2nd chapter, the literatures on "dao" are surveyed. The previous research usually focused on:1) the intrinsic part of speech of "dao";2) the part of speech of "dao" in "V+dao+X" sentence patterns and the classification of the postposition "X" in "V dao" sentence patterns.In the 3rd chapter, the semantic analysis of "V+dao+X" is discussed. The semantic features of "V+dao+X" is analyzed in three aspects:the semantic relations between the verb "V" and the postposition "X" in "V dao", the semantic features of verb "V" and the restriction of "dao" on "V" in "V dao".The 4th chapter analyzes the syntax of "V+dao+X". "V dao" is a phrase construction centered on the verb, usually used in the center of predicate in a sentence. Beginning with the typology analysis of "V+dao+X", this chapter analyzes its syntax in following aspects:how to handle the patient if it appears in the "V(transitive verb)+dao+not patient" sentence pattern; the subject types of "V dao"; whether "V+dao(+X)" could be used as the attribute, and whether use "bu" or "meiyou" to negate in "V dao" sentence patterns.In the 5th chapter, with the aid of metaphor and image schema concepts in the cognitive linguistics, it is presented how "V dao" is extended from the spatial domain to the time domain, the amount domain and the degree domain.In the 6th chapter, the "V+dao+X" is discussed in a perspective of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. It includes the difficulties that Korean usually meet when they learn "V+dao+X" sentence patterns and the reason why they could not grasp the usage of "V dao" well.The final chapter is a brief conclusion. The thesis contents are summarized.
