Oracle, Kim Moon-shaped Shang Handicraft Industry

The handicraft in Shang Dynasty has already been well-developed, and a detailed division of labor has arisen. Senior scholars have done lots of research in this area, although which is mainly from the aspect of ancient documents and archaeological excavations. The Oracle and Bronze Inscription, as the temporal social remains, the character pattern of which reflects the actual situation in that temporal society. Theses characters provide a rich material resource for the research on handicraft in Shang Dynasty. While articles from this aspect to study are still rare. Therefore, the author will do a systematic research from the character pattern of Oracle and Bronze Inscription, combining the documents, archaeological information and folklore knowledge.This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is introduction analyze the research situation and meaning of handicraft industry in Shang Dynasty, and give an accounts of materials and methods used in this paper, as well as some explanations of the Oracle. The second part is the main part, make a particular research on the bronze smelting industry, construction industry, textiles, wooden furniture production industry, wine industry and the salt industry and other craft sectors, respectively from the character pattern of Oracle and Bronze Inscription. We can see that the mining and casting technology has been well-developed,and a variety of bronze products can be made by a certain percentage of Cu-Sn system. The architectural shapes designed by the Yin people are various, and people has mastered the skill of ramme earth, verson of building and determination of location. In textiles, the Yin people have raised silkworm, and known how to reeling, yarn the silk and other fabrics can be made. Yin people can be build durable transport with complete shapes such as cars and little boats, also some farm tools like Leisi. Winemaking skill in Shang Dynasty is excellent, people can make different sorts of wine, and they are able to make salt, in the Oracle which is written to be "halogen " managed by "halogen subject". In the third part, the author analyzes the labourers and management system in Shang handicraft industry, from which we can find that in the Shang Dynasty there have a certain establishment and specialized management agencies to supervise the workers. From the character "shell" in Oracle, we could say that some of the handicraft products in Shang Dynasty have been exchange. The fourth part is a summary of this paper, and summarize the importance of Shang handicraft industry, as well as the various aspects of the handicraft.Through the aspect of paleography to study handicraft industry system in Shang Dynasty, we can see that the handicraft sectors are numerous and well-developed,which lay a foundation for the development of handicrafts, on the other hand,combined with other materiala we may cinfirm the historical value of Oracle and Bronze Inscription and other precious ancient characters.
