Asymmetry in the function of the brain hemispheres is always concern of people. In recent years, with the rise and development of Cognitive Neuroscience, researchers put more and more attention on the cognition of the brain and language. Consequently, the language processing mechanism becomes the hot issue of contemporary Psychology and Linguistics. The research on the language mechanism of the brain hemispheres contributes to further understanding of the complex relationship between brain and language, meanwhile, it provides theoretical basis and practical value for clinical diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Presently, the research on the language mechanism mainly concentrates on phonetic characters, but Chinese is graphic characters different from phonetic characters. The Chinese studies on the two brain hemispheres not only further the understanding of languages, but also contributes to explore the differences between different languages. In Chinese, the former research on the function of the brain hemispheres focus on the word-level processing, so this study investigated the processing mechanism of the brain hemispheres in sentence-level information, based on previous study. Half-vision display technology and priming methods are adopted in this study, in which three experiments are included:In Experiment 1, the characteristics of word-level processing and essage-level processing of the brain hemispheres are investigated, meanwhile, the gender difference on different level are investigated too. Three different levels of constraint sentences which are simple sentences and are investigated both in terms of normal sentence order and in terms of messy sentence order are adopted. In Experiment 2, based on Experiment 1, the sensitivity of two hemispheres in different message-level processing are investigated further on the conditions of extended length of sentences and increased correlation between words in sentences and target word. Three different levels of constraint sentences in which both high and low constrains sentences include the words associated with the target words. The investigation goes on both in normal sentence order and messy sentence order, and the gender differences in message-level processing are investigated further. In Experiment 3, the processing characteristics of vocabulary in sentences, grammar and message-level information are investigated. Different background information in sentences are investigated with Five types of sentence and two types oF target wordsBased on three experiments, conclusions are as following:1 the results of investigation indicates that in the information processing of Chinese sentences, asymmetry exists between the brain hemispheres and the left hemisphere predominates.2 Word-level processing and message-level processing are all found both in left hemisphere and in right hemisphere during the priming of sentence information.3 During the priming of sentence information with different constraints, both the right and left hemispheres show the sensitivity to constraint sentences.4 There is no significant difference in sentence grammar and lexical meaning of context information, but the sensitivity of left hemisphere in the message-level processing is higher.5 During the Chinese sentence-level processing information, the male and female subjects showed some characteristics different From the past. Female showed strong advantage in left hemisphere, while the two hemispheres of male didn't show significant difference. At the same time, the female behaved faster in the process of language information.
