| Ernest Hemingway is famous for the theme of war, code hero and iceberg principle. He is good at writing dialogues. Hemingway's dialogues which are concise, implicative, repetitious and true become specialized term. Conciseness and repetition are paradoxical. But they are actually in complete harmony in Hemingway's fiction. Repetition plays a very important role at Hemingway's concise dialogues.This thesis centers on two characters of Hemingway's dialogues——conciseness and repetition. From the point of angle of narratology, using scrutinize method, combining J Hillis Miller's repetition theory, the thesis intends to make a detailed study on Hemingway's dialogues. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part expounds Hemingway's dialogues as a whole. The second part is circle around the concise text style. Hemingway always uses dialogues to replace description and uses dialogues to pursue truth. From these two aspects, Hemingway's dialogues can be deeply understood. The third part deals with characters which are depicted by dialogues. Through repeated words, phrases and sentences, the thesis discovers some of the characters are vivid, but some of them are multiplex. |
