Research On Ecological Marxism

Since the 1960s, the’green movement’ which aimed to protect the environment has been risen when people faced the unprecedented environmental pollution and the survival crisis in capitalist countries. And the Ecological Marxism was a new left wing ideological trend which was developed in this movement. In the introspection for the survival crisis brought by the ecological crisis, this theory took advantage from classical texts of Max and the critical tradition in western traditional philosophy, criticized the capitalism’s political, economic, cultural and some other aspects from the perspective of ecology. Actually, it just wanted to made theoretical exploration how to construct a sustainable developing socialism which started at people’s life embarrassment. And in the progress of this theory, it also reconstructed or strengthened the historical materialism from the ecological dimension in the concern towards the environmental pollution which broke out in the course of socialist construction in the Soviet.Based on the analysis of Ecological Marxism, we can see that the ecological crisis had been issues of the times with the development of capitalism. In the Latter Half of the 20th Century, along with the third revolution of science and technology’s happening, structure of national economy and the inner composition of capital’s changing, and pattern of world politics and the function of national government’s great changing, capitalism began to changed. The rapid changing was not just in the scope, but also from the depth, illustrated by the process of finance capital’s globalization. But in the process, capitalism also bridged its own crisis to all over the world, it was a big predicament which humanity ever faced. In the face of these difficulties, especially the ecological crisis which could jeopardize the existence of mankind as a whole, the process of human civilization needs to develop from industrial civilization to ecological civilization. The Soviet textbook philosophy also needs to adjust its theory of content from the ecological dimension in order to adjustment for the reality theme.In fact, the classical Marxist text contains rich ecological thinking, these are embodied in Marx’s natural view, theory of labor alienation, critical theory of capital and the communist ideal. Ecological Marxism is the theory to response the ecological crisis which is just based on "return to Marx". It begins with an exploration of the root of ecological crisis, and rationality defending for Marxist philosophy. The criticism contains a lot of parts, including the natural view of capitalism, technical and economic rationality, mode of production and consumption culture. And in order to solve these problems, Ecological Marxism started from the caring of survival situation of human being, so they set up the political ideal to build a scientific ecological political society.Therefore, under the situation that Soviet textbook philosophy’s mode of thinking and theoretical content is not enough to meet the requirements of the times, to answer the questions of the times, drawing lessons from of the theory of ecological Marxism, deepening the ecological dimension of historical materialism, developing the ecological civilization of China is the further theoretical studies to keep up with the realistic foundation’s changing.
