As a representative of the anti-American forces, the United States want to overthrow the Syrian regime of Al-Assad Bashar by means of domestic opposition in Syria. The United States even set the "red line" for military intervention. If the Syrian government against international humanitarian principles, then the United States will take measures to punish it, including military intervention. But the Obama administration didn’t do it. It takes political dialogues with Russia, and finally solved the incident through diplomatic means. There are various obstacles of United States’ military intervention program.Domestically, the people’s anti-war heart and factionalism impeded President Obama to take military action. In addition, the Obama administration adjusted their strategic to return to the Asia-pacific region. In order to maintain its’ interest, the Obama administration has to avoid to mired in this area again. And European Allies have little interest in military action, which makes the United States’ plan meaningless.Internationally, for the sake of maintaining the power and checks and balances in the United States, Russia give strong support to the Assad regime. Secondly, Syria’s geopolitical strategy is of great significance. As an important ally of Iran, the United States has to consider Iran’s reaction. Last but not least, the United States needs to consider the potential danger of Israel. Finally, although there is hundreds of Syria opposition groups, but it’s impossible to win in a short time. Combined with extremist groups, especially the ISIS rapid rise in the Syrian civil war, American counter-terrorism situation is not optimistic. We can have a more profound understanding of the situation in Syria and the political transition in the Middle East. At the same time, we could have a more clear understanding to the adjustment of the Obama administration.
