Interest groups caused by western political system are bodies of people with similar interests, who try to influence government policies and advance shared political interests. They are also called lobby groups or pressure groups. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has made democratic reform towards the western political system. Interest groups have become more and more important role during the transition of Russian society. Now Russian interest groups work to persuade governmental officials to take actions consistent with what the groups think should be done.The paper attempts to make a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Russian interest groups. First of all, it examines the history, types and characteristics of Russian interest groups. Secondly, it analyzes the positive and negative role of Russian interest groups from political development, economic reform and foreign policy decision. Lastly, it makes a penetrating analysis of countermeasure about interest groups how to promote social transition smoothly.
