It is an interdependent world that calls for the participation of internationalorganization in more active way. The present study that makes an investigation on theUnited Nations (UN0`s role in the global governance means to re-research the UNfrom a new perspective and a much wide agenda.Firstly, the article expounds why the idea of global governance is popularnowadays, what is the global governance, and in what ways can the globalgovernance be realized. Secondly, it reviews the relations between the UN and theglobal governance. The UN, the biggest inter-governmental organization (IGO) sincethe World War II, encounters not only chances but also challenges in the globalgovernance. Then the article makes further research on the UN`s role in thegovernance in taking environmental governance as a specific field. Lastly but the least,it points out in what areas can the UN reform itself to act more actively in the globalgovernance. The article draws a conclusion that the UN has many unique advantages to be oneof the most important actors in the global governance .It should get along well withother actors like the civil society, national countries and so on. It should play a centralrole in the global governance to make the world better and more democratic.
