Taiwan issue, which is sensitive between Sino-U.S. relations , is the core and key political relations, among which U.S. arms sale to Taiwan is the major obstacle bilateral relations. Since 1949 the kuomintang government fled to Taiwan, U.S has never stopped selling weapons to Taiwan and the negotiation about it between the two countries also has never stopped. Taiwan's military weaponry is mainly from U.S. So the United States is the biggest obstacle to China's peaceful reunification. How to grasp the Sino-U.S relations in 21st century is very important, especially political deal with U.S. arms sale to Taiwan, for peaceful reunification, is more important to create favorable conditions.This paper takes "U.S. arms sale to Taiwan and the political relations between Sino-U.S." as the research object, centering on the origin of Taiwan issue, the historical change of U.S. arms sale to Taiwan, the reason analysis of U.S. arms sale to Taiwan and the political influence of U.S. arms sale to Taiwan on Sino-U.S. relationships.This paper includes four parts discussing above questions:Part 1 : the origin of Taiwan issue. Including the returning of Taiwan and the formation of Taiwan issue.Part 2: the history of U.S. arms sale to Taiwan. Based on the historical data, in accordance with the founding of the People's Republic of China , Nixon's visit to China, the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the end of the Cold War and post-Cold War period.Part 3: the reason analysis of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Generally speaking,including internal factors and external causes.The needs of U.S. National Security Strategy ,the driving forces of economic interests and domestic political impact of U.S. are internal factors; The impact of Taiwan lobby groups which stand outside politics,Taiwan independence forces'seeking military support and changes of political structure in Taiwan Island are external causes.Part 4 : the impact on political relations between Sino-U.S. form U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Firstly,the impact of cross-strait integration and stability;Secondly, the impact of the process of peaceful reunification of China;Thirdly, the damages of Sino-U.S. strategic relationship;Finally,the impact of Sino-US common interests.
