The rapid development and universal application of social network software have a profound influence on people’s life. With the integrated functions and powerful interactive features, social network software can not only afford people a platform to share their life, expand their social circle, but also support conducting learning activities. They can expand learning spaces, enrich learning resources, and promote socialization learning which is benefit for universal learning and lifelong learning. Renren is one of the most popular social network software in China which can both afford an interactive platform and a learning platform. In this study, we explored to conduct interactive learning activities based on Renren to promote learners’ communication, achieve deep knowledge building and make learners be aware of learning through interaction, learning in daily life.In this paper, we discriminated the definitions about interactive learning activities, and analyzed the advantages of using Renren to conduct interactive learning activities. According to activity-centered instructional design theory, situated learning theory and group dynamics theory, we proposed a design flow of interactive learning activities based on Renren, including preliminary analysis, elements design and optimization design. Then we designed a specific case on curriculum of "Visual Culture&Media Literacy" and applied it to practice. Finally, we analyzed the effects of learning activities through learners’ posts on Renren.The results showed that the interactive learning activities based on Renren were effective in promoting learners participation and their knowledge building. And we can draw the following conclusions based our analysis:in real-name environments, learners trend to communicate with people with whom they are familiar; among the three kinds of interactive learning activities, learners would rather to take part in sharing learning activities, designing learning activities followed and discussion learning activities in the last; competition and reward strategy can stimulate learners’ learning enthusiasm and promote learners’ emotion communication; learners’ awareness of self-management is relatively weak and easily affected by others in virtual learning community.
