A Study On The Friendship Status And Characteristics Of Students With Mental Retardation

Based on the survey of friendship quality and quantity about mentally retardedstudents, this study intends to explore the characteristics of their friendship. This studywill be focused on the middle grade and senior grade, respectively on the gender, ageand the disorder degree of variance analysis. Further research friendship quantity andquality of related, illustrates the characteristics of the present situation of mentallyretarded students’ friendship. It also puts forward some suggestions to improve theirfriendship. This study selected object are two special schools，which city fromShanghai and Yichun, from third grade to ninth grade，totally of168students assubjects. Firstly try to complete best friend nomination to survey the number offriendship. Both students chosen for friends need complet Friendship QualityQuestionnaire, for test the quality of friendship. The findings indicated that:1. A smaller number of the mentally retarded students’ friendship, on average lessthan a friend. Even27%of mentally retarded students think they don’t have any friends.2. Low mentally retarded students overall quality of friendship, positive friendshipquality at a moderate level. In friendship relations, conflict and betrayal of negativefriendship quality is lower than the medium level, according to their conflict will berelatively less.3. As the growth of the age, a slight increase in the number of mentally retardedstudents’ friendship, positive friendship quality improved. And significant increase inpositive friendship quality. It’s have no obvious impacts on gender, the degree ofdisorder of mentally retarded students friendship quantity and quality.4. Friendship quantity and quality of mentally retarded students do not have indirect proportion, less friend of student may also exist positive friendship quality.
