Adaptability is the way in which people actively find the solution to successfully adjust themselves for the environmental requirement. Athletes’adaptability towards competition chiefly consists of two aspects, namely, internal adaptability and external adaptability. To all these different factors, both internal adaptability and external adaptability have their own specificity to the internal factors and the external factors. The internal adaptability possesses the involvement of the adjustment to the internally influencing factors as well as part of the externally influencing factors. Therefore, requiring the athletes to acquire external adaptability, part of the externally influencing factors are simultaneously to offer a test of athletes’internal adaptability. The research on the adaptability among both university athletes of track and field and the coaches indeed can work as a reference, which also bears implication on how to boost the professional standard among those university track-and-field athletes or even the athletes of this kind from other categories (rather than university). With the approaches of literature presentation and comment, interviewing experts, survey by questionnaires, mathematical statistic and logical analysis, this research has been carried out aiming at giving a deeply-detailed findings about the relationship between the adaptability of the university track-and-field athletes and the factors influencing such adaptability. The integration of both internal and external analysis towards the athletes’ adaptability turned out to conclude the relationship between the theory, the mechanism of the adaptability and the athletes’ professional standard. The findings are as follows:Of the internally influencing factors, willpower affects the athletes’adaptability tremendously. This is especially true in terms of athletes’ tenacity, self-sensation, state of mind and self-confidence which are all associated very closely and heavily affect the athletes. Self-confidence usually delivers its effect to both fright and state of mood; the latter is especially significantly influenced by it. The material dimension and the outcome dimension of athletes’motivation delivers certain amount of influence to the state of mind. The process dimension can place a huge impact to the state of mood.Of the factors influencing the internal adaptability of the athletes, the individual psychological features possesses certain amount of influence to the willpower. This is obviously manifested when it comes to the relationship of being unbending, being tenacious and being decisive. The relationship between the willpower and the contest motivation is mainly presented on the tenacity and material, outcome dimension, self-confidence dimension and process dimension. The external factors influencing the athletes’internal adaptability accomplish their jobs through generating impact to willpower. Such external factors can produce significant effect to both the state of adaptability before the match and the performance during the match.
