From the period of highschool study to obtaining an occupation, adolescents experienced three main stages: the division of Arts and Sciences, the choice of college major and the choice of occupation. According to this phenomenon, this study investigates the vocational tendency characteristics of students in junior year of high school after the division of Arts and Sciences, and cognitive status quo of relations between Arts and Sciences in highschool and college majors, and relations between college majors and occupation choices. The purpose of the study is to guide students efficiently to make the choice of majors, take the appropriate employment, and solve the problems of brain waste, diploma waste and resource waste and so on,which is on the base of sufficiently learning about the vocational ability of the Art and science students in highschool and the cognitive status quo of college majors and social occupationThis study adopts Holland vocational tendency scale and self-made questionnaire, which investigate 301 students from the Harbin Municipal Senior High School Grade eight classes. The the survey results show that:1. The Art and science students in the aspect of art type of the vocational tendency exist high significant differences, but other types have no difference;2. Most students can distinguish corresponding relations between university professional category and the Art and Science in highschool. Only a few students have cognitive bias about that.3. Students’ cognition on relations between college majors and occupation has a wide range of consistency. Further case analysis show that, the inconsistency in the vocational tendency, the division of Arts and Science, the choice of college majors and the judgment of occupation will lead to the great confusion of the individual development. In order to coordinate all kinds of relations, and avoid wasting the training cost, the relevant guidance to students are necessary.
