Thinking and strategy of sustainable development has become an important guiding principle of national economic and social development, education is an important part of sustainable development. UN "agenda 21" pointed out: "Education is the key to promote sustainable development and improve people to deal with environment and development". The United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization officially released " the United Nations education promotes sustainable development for ten years(2005-2014), the international executive plan " to outline that education has played a key role in promoting sustainable development. Education has become the key activity to improve the citizen awareness of sustainable development and promote the sustainable development. "Sustainable Development Education" is essentially the education of values.This article through the geography teachers and the students’ questionnaires and interviews of geography research staff in high school of Shandong province summarizes and analyses the results of the survey and the interview. It can be seen: One is that the sustainable development education is becoming more and more prominent in the status of geography teaching in high school. Implementing sustainable development education in the process of geography teaching in high school is necessary, sustainable development education for improving the students’ literacy,cultivating the students’ ability and helping students to establish correct world outlook, the outlook on life and values plays a bigger role; Second, although the sustainable development education has been implemented in geography teaching in high school, but the current situation of the implementation of sustainable development education in geography teaching in high school is not very ideal, and a lot of problems in the process of carrying out: the concept has not yet formed in High School Geography Teaching, the implementation of high school geography education for sustainable development does not really implemented, the evaluation system of teaching in high school geography education for sustainable development to be improved. Focus on current problems, this paper puts forward the countermeasures of implementing sustainable development education in geography teaching in high school: One is to strengthen the construction of teaching staff and improve the consciousness and the ability of sustainable development education of geography teachers. Second is to strengthen the cultivation of the concept of sustainable development of students in high school. Three is pragmatic, and the overall optimization of geography teaching process of high school.Implementing sustainable development education in geography teaching in high school,cultivating students’ consciousness of sustainable development and improving the ability ofstudents is the needs of contemporary China’s national conditions and the new curriculum reform and also meets the development of times and individual. With the constant improvement of the sustainable development and the development of the high school geography education,geography teaching of sustainable development education in high school will have a broader research space.
