Today China’s economic and political reform deeply and widely reaches the country’s social infrastructure and political hierarchy.Humankind’s societal value becomes more multifaceted, different ideological beliefs’ conflict becomes more complicated. Traditional one directional, indoctrination in higher education faces daunting challenges. To find more effective methods and approaches to improve ideological and political science education in university level becomes an urgent and prioritized issue.Films or movies in general are artistic reflection of social behavior and people’s life. Commercial films are a particular form of artistic and exaggerating depiction of real life. In the meanwhile, film is a popular form of media to propagate societal ideology and beliefs among the general public. Young teens and students form the pool of movie goers. They also are the main source of popular stars and fans of movie stars. They form the most number of fans club, and are easily led and misled by values propagated throughout these films. Teens and young adults spent most of their time in school, have limited and little opportunity to participate in social life. Movies become an important channel for teens and young adults to understand and perceive social life. They often take those highly exaggerating plots in movies as depictions of real life and values propagated through these films as truth. However, this problematic challenges provides educators and scholars a new opportunity. From the educator’s perspective, movies and theaters’ powerful attraction to students and its lasting charisma could be a valuable supplement for higher education, particularly in the discipline of ideological and political science. From the student’s perspective, they can be protected and guided in their enjoyment of the film, correctly perceive and understand these films’ underlying values or beliefs, and their propagated lifestyle. They can then distinguish and recognized the positive value and negative beliefs. Supplementing movie art in higher education is an effective approach to furtherance student’s growth and maturity.Recently, commercial films directed by Zhou XingChi achieved tremendous popularity. They become the public’s important and popular channel of entertainment. Most people would watch his films for leisure. His films represent the movie industry with their most significant influence on university students with wide popularity. Due to the different ideological and value beliefs held by Mr. Zhou and most university scholars and students, Zhou’s films usually reflects strong post-modernism, anarchism, and historical nihilism beliefs. They tend to misled young students; furthermore, these values conflict with or even weaken the positive effect and achievement in modern ideological and political science education. As a result, Mr. Zhou’s films or their artistically reflection of the director’s value beliefs has both negative and positive effect on the said education. It is necessary and worthwhile to closely watch and study these effects.The paper uses films directed by Mr. Zhou XingChi as an example to study commercial film’s effect on university level ideological and political science education. Its content is divided into four sections:The first section summarily states the thesis and its scholarly importance. It also states the study’s background, method, framework, and the paper’s creative and distinguishing value.The second section conceptually defines commercial film’s artistic creation and its methodology; the section further states the three main characteristics of the film art creation method: beyond time and space constraints, cognition by visual and auditory triggers, wide acceptance among the general public or its popularity. The section mainly analyzes how Zhou’s film art outperform the mass film works and distinguish itself as the most popular and excellent. It dissects Zhou’s films’ artistic characteristic and its underlying values. Zhou’s movies not only hold the general artistic character of commercial films but also have its distinguishing artistic style. Among these styles we can find: film art’s technique of expression are exceptional and distinguishable from others, film plots usually contains nonsensical humor(a few example film is followed in main section); these films usually has strong cultural influences; these films’ artistic expression usually compels personal reflection and affords much food for thought; these films’ underlying morale or values have profound cognitive and behavioral influence on viewers; they are worthwhile to study and ponder.The third section mainly illustrates commercial films’ multifaceted social function and Mr. Zhou’s film’s double effect on ideological and political science education in university level. First, the section introduces commercial film’s multifaceted function in modern society, including spiritual relief, trend setting and the function of education in leisure. However, Mr. Zhou’s film also brings negative effect on ideological and political social science education; they also permeate and propagate negative beliefs. Among these include: historical nihilism(make up history, disrespect historical fact), idealistic outlook(propagating stories of gods, demons, ghosts and monsters, not respecting science), irresponsible or the game of life outlook. The section also mainly states Mr. Zhou’s films’ lashing effect on traditional ideological and political science education, it separately illustrates these effects in three aspects: These films can easily misled students to generate false ideological beliefs, to manifest wrong social behaviors. They also cripple the achievement and positive effect of current ideological and political science education(Zhou’s film’s depiction of fictional world and their temptation obstruct the current national education systems’ positive effect on young adults).The fourth section concretely states Zhou’s movies’ double effect on strengthen and improving ideological and political science education in university level. The section first states Zhou’s movies’ supplemental effect in strengthen and improve the current education system. It mainly analyzes how to improve university level ideological and political science education observing Zhou’s movies’ utilization of the art of linguistics, the art of narration, and the art of valuation. Educators find corresponding methodology in supplementing Zhou’s film to the current education system. Lastly, it analyzes Zhou’s movie’s negative effect on ideological and political education in university level and its corresponding strategy to remedy such effect, separately in three aspects: Educators could lead university students to watch commercial films(teach them to understand the movie’s underlying spiritual value or morale); educators could also lead students to distinguish and recognize two different set of social and ideological value belief systems, lastly, guide the students to understand and adapt to the society.
