The rapid development of MOOCs has brought great impact to the college as well as the whole social education reform. It is not only a challenge but an opportunity for education. As a typical kind of MOOCs, xMOOC is popular in universities. It provides not only rich resources for learners, but also the platform to create courses for researchers. Micro lectures influence xMOOC definitively. This study explored the design of micro lectures under xMOOC. It is valuable for micro lecture design research.This paper discriminates the definitions about xMOOC and micro lectures, and analyzes the development status of xMOOC and micro lecture design from the perspective of theory and practice in the world. It designs the micro lecture under xMOOC from target location, factor analysis and project construction based on PLC micro lecture design model, two-way teaching design theory and the experiential learning theory. Specifically, it proposes a scheme from six elements which are analysis of potential learners, teaching goal setting, design of micro content, preparation of tools, micro activities planning and evaluation setting. Then, it selects several knowledge points of visual culture course according as points of micro content selection. And it develops a micro lecture from the orderly organization and the visual presentation of micro content and the interactive design of micro activity. It also implements the micro lecture on iMoocs platform. Finally, it evaluates the teaching effect and the effectiveness of the micro lecture design by analyzing unit practice score and peer review assignments results, interaction times, forum posts and so forth.Research shows that the design of micro lecture under xMOOC is effective in increasing participation, improving learning depth and enhancing knowledge level of learners. From the learning motivation, learners are mainly motivated by internal factors. From the learning process, learners tend to interact immediately and participate substantively. From the learning results, micro lecture design under xMOOC should pay attention to visual the knowledge and provide learning support.
