In today’s society, parents and teachers in kindergarten all think highly of picture books reading. Not only there is a special picture books curriculum in kindergarten, but also there are many picture books reading activities in most children’s family life. Therefore, the picture book choosing and children’s reading preferences become very important. A lot of teachers in kindergarten and parents do not know how to choose proper picture books for their children so that children cannot get good development. Thus, goal-oriented and selective reading will be very helpful to children’s growing.This study based on real observing and participating by myself in kindergarten. This article combined observing, interviewing and case analyzing methods to observe 196 children in target kindergarten for three months, to analyze 196 3-6-year-old children’s reading preferences systematically, including children’s topic preferences for the picture book reading,form preferences for the picture book reading, attention preferences in the picture book reading process, memorization preferences after the picture book reading and education strategies’ study in the picture book reading etc. Besides, the study of different reading preferences towards children of different genders and ages is also included.Final study results indicate that:First, 3-6-year-old children’s preferences for picture books with different topics are different.Second, 3-6-year-old children’s preferences for picture books of different forms are different:Children of different genders and different stages of age have different preferences for different formats of picture books;Children of different genders have different preferences for picture books’ cover pages with different degrees of hardness;Children of different age classes have the same preferences for picture books’ cover pages with different degrees of hardness;Children of different genders and different age classes have the same choice for picture books in different colors.Third, 3-6-year-old children’s attention preferences in the picture book reading process are the same.The end, 3-6-year-old children’s memorization preferences after the picture book reading are different.
