Dong Ze is an important figure in the history of Yunnan in the early of the Republic of China. As an international student from Yunnan China studying in the United States, he won the political education master’s degree at Columbia University and a master’s degree in economy in Erie University. At the same time, he was awarded the Academician of French academy of sciences. Dong Ze is a famous educator and economist in Yunnan. He personally involved in the preparation of the first university in southwest of China, Dong Lu University, and worked as the President of it for eight years.Except as President of the Dong Lu University, Dong Ze was also the director-general of the department of transportation, the financial secretary and the agent of Fudian Bank in Yunnan. During the Anti-Japanese War, Dong Ze was the office director of the national government trade in Yunnan and made an essential contribution to social economy and the development of education in Yunnan.Dong Ze, as the President of Yunnan’s first university, had a unique status and outstanding historical value, especially his originality in administration idea and management practice, which is worthy to study and to learn for us. But currently the systematic and comprehensive study of his moral philosophy and management practice is still insufficient. With a combination of theoretical research and practical cases, this paper sets off from the perspective of educational history and elaborates Dong Ze’s managing concept and management practices thoroughly and systematically from the following several aspects. The first part of this study is introduction. In the second part, it introduces Dong Ze’s background and personal early experience of growing up, studying abroad, and then the founding of Dong Lu University. In this part, the author explores the formation of Dong Ze’s management concept and practices in Dong Lu University and the reasons from two aspects of subjective and objective. In the third part, the paper expounds the main content of his management practices. In the fourth part, the main content of Dong Lu Universitymanaging concept and management practices are analyzed and its characteristics are summarized. In the fifth part, the concept of his governance and management practices are analyzed and evaluated, and its influence and enlightenment on nowadays administration and school management to provide beneficial reference are also elaborated.
