Yu Yue (1821-1907), named Yinfu and known as Quyuan, was born in De Qing conty, Zhe Jiang province. He was widely popular in the acdemic of education in late Qing dynasty. Many scholars from home and abroad came to learn from him, such as Zhang Taiyan, Dai Wang, Zhu Yixin and so on, which were known as "three thousand prentices". Yu Yue, who was outstanding in the academic circles of the late Qing dynasty, has made great achievements in Confucian Classics, Historiography, Poetry and Ci Poems, Novels, Local Records, Epigraphy, Herbalism, Learning of the Philosophers, and Little Learning as well. However his study hasn't gained enough attention in the academic circle where there is only a generalization of his academic achievements and characteristics. It is not correspondent with his status of being a leading authority. Therefore, this thesis attempts to better this condition to a certain extent. With the study of academic history as the research perspective, this thesis centers on Yu Yue's achievements in Confucian Classics, Learning of the Philosophers, and Little Learning. Confucian Classics concerned, Yu Yue maintains that Han Learning and Song Learning should be mediated, and that Modern-script Classics and Ancient-script Classics should be harmonized. Learning of the Philosophers concerned, Yu Yue attaches great importance to collation and his all-embracing spirit stands out. As far as Little Learning is concerned, Yu Yue pays special attention to wording, morphology, and phonology as well. In addition, Yu Yue's academic attitude, research method, and his personality as an academic individual make him a model for today's scholars.
