With the rapid development of science and technology, culture is also developing and changing. Popular Culture has become the main tide of Cultures. The youth, especially the Middle School students, are easily influenced by the popular culture, and the different attitude toward popular culture of teachers and students may affect their relationship. Since many domestic researches on popular culture is more concerned with the developed areas than less-developed areas, the core point of this paper is to survey the situation of popular culture in less-developed rural areas.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part is to pose the issue and establish the theoretical framework of this study. The theory of "The Three Figurative Cultures" from M. Mead is used to explain why we need to analyze the popular culture and its influence to the teacher-student relationship from the cultural perspective.The second part is the case study. The field work conducted in school Y in X County, Jiangxi province, by ways of questionnaires and enclosed/ semi-enclosed talks with the school leaders, teachers as well as students, and as a control study, school M in Beijing has also been surveyed by the same way. Through these surveys, first finding out the attitude of students of school Y to the popular culture, and by comparing the survey data of school Y and school M, finding out the differences situation of popular culture phenomenon between city and country. Second, by comparing the survey data of teachers and students, to find out the different attitude of teachers and students toward popular culture, and its influence on the teacher-student relationship.The third part is use the theory of "The Three Figurative Cultures" to analyze the case and make some suggestions. Teachers need to know some popular culture. They need to have "cultural dialogue" with students. At the same time, we should update education concept and improve education method to improve the cultural thought of middle school student.The unique feature of this study are: Comparing with other domestic researches, this paper pays close attention to less-developed rural areas which is less concerned about; this study also strives for making people attach more importance to the teacher-student relationship from the perspective of popular culture.
