The report of the 16 session of the CPC pointed out definitely: "A nationality can not be independent in the wood of the world without high spirits and noble characters." Internationalization is the developing tendency in the world. Under such a background, the evolution of national consciousness challenges the national spirit centered on patriotism and various cultural. Conflicts erode the national spirit based on national culture. There are two hundred billion youngsters in our nation, they are the future for our homeland, the successors to carry on the cause of socialist modernization, so their ideological and ethical standards and national spirit situation will relate to the matter, whether having qualified successors to carry on socialist construction. Therefore, it is important to train Chinese national spirit, especially for the youngsters.School is the essential base of cultivating and developing the national spirit. Teaching is the important way and preferred aspect of building and implementing the national spirit. In the course of teaching, teachers should pay attention to moral education in order to accomplish the unity of teaching and educating people. Geography teaching has some unique conditions in the cultivation of the national spirit. So the geography teachers should take the responsibility for the practical arrangement of teaching contents and the effective exploration of promoting methods.This paper is divided into four parts, including theory and practice on the national spirit in the geography teaching. The first part is introduction, including the background, the major research methods and the concept of the national spirit, national education and geography disciplines. The second part is the overview of national spirit, mainly from abroad and domestic which including three levels of details in the country profiles, schools and subjects. The third part is the teaching of geography at the implementation of national education, from teaching at the geographical significance of national spirit, the need for superiority, the status quo and question and so on. The fourth part is the effective implementation of national geography education thinking, from the analysis of geographical teaching materials and teaching methods to explore. This study is based on the current domestic and international research on the national spirit. The author has long been engaged in the geographical middle school teaching job, and is familiar with the current geographical materials, the learning needs and characteristics of the middle school students and the major problem of the status quo. This article discusses the questions of the national spirit in the geography teaching and explores their solutions to optimizing the geography teachers teaching in the classroom teaching behavior, improve its teaching standards and promote their professional growth.
