The paper makes a comprehensive and systematic study on the structure, production and understanding of the politics news reports by the Chinese Business News from the discourse analysis perspective. Combined with the writer’s observations as an intern at the Chinese Business News and the issues faced with in the realistic context of politics reporting, the paper aims to provide some practical advice on the reforms of politics reporting by the Chinese Business New. And hopefully it can also provide some use for reference for other city newspapers’mainstreaming process.The paper carries out a discourse analysis to the politics reports of the Chinese Business News from the production, processing, distribution and consumption of the news text. It combines theoretical interpretation and case studies using the study methodologies of content analysis, literature analysis and sample survey.The first chapter puts forward the subject and purpose of the study. Domestic and overseas studies about discourse analysis and city newspaper politics reporting are reviewed. The subject matter and study methods as well as the innovations and difficulties in the study are briefly explained.The second chapter reviews the reform progress of city newspapers, particularly with regard to the return and dilemma of politics reporting. This part makes a brief instruction to the politics reporting by the Chinese Business New, and clarifies the concepts of discourse, news discourse and politics reporting.The third though fifth chapters study the news discourse of politics reporting by the Chinese Business News from the perspectives of news structure, production and understanding, using the Teun A Van Dijk discourse analysis frame. The news structure analysis puts emphasis on the news topic, style and rhetoric. The news production analysis gives emphasis to the social recognition and discourse handling. And the news comprehension analysis focuses on the understanding of the politics reports by the general readers. In view of the journalism reform campaign of "go to grassroots and change reporting approach and writing style", the sixth chapter brings forward the suggestions for the Chinese Business News to solve the problems in politics reporting in terms of news structure, production and comprehension, so as to provide popular politics reports from the general public’s perspective and in close-to-nature news discourse.
