Nowadays the age is the one that science and technology change with each passing day. Along with the technical and scientific development, student information management thus becomes a very important part of college management .In recent years, students'number and school scale of high vocational colleges enlarge continuously. But in high vocational colleges, MIS based on B/S model that is designed specifically for them is still few, and the software of Microsoft Office is used to do some simple data input and query work or a university's MIS that is provided by their leading departments. Since school pattern and management system are different, MIS of university's is not well suited for actual demands. On the foundation of extensive demand investigation and through feasibility analysis, the author has designed a MIS of B/S specifically for high vocational college. This system is an integrated MIS composed of 6 modules, which are student basic information management, score management, courses management, online course selecting management, comprehensive query and user management modules, facing school management departments and students.This thesis presents an student management system designed based on the Rational Unified Process (RUP) via Uniform Modeling language (UML). In the system, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is selected as DBMS, and ASP and Web database middleware technology is adopted for developing Web pages.In addition, ADO and OLE DB technology is utilized to join and visit databases.The thesis introduces the analysis and design process of the system. This thesis applies RUP to the requirements analysis and system design process of the student management system and demonstrates the process and methodology of concept model, design model and deploy model, with the help of numerous UML diagrams. It also provides concrete examples to show the system implementation and testing methods. The author experienced a comparatively complete development process. The data mining technology in the application of students'source analysis is also discussed. Furthermore, the author gives a suggestion for the criterion of specialty and course setting for high vocational college, creates a set of educational information management standard, and design a set of complete software specification. At the end, the weakness of the system and main task in the next step are pointed out.
