Glass-ceramics as a new structural and functional materials, for its excellent optical, electrical. magnetic, and chemical properties in defense advanced technology, machinery manufacturing, micro-electronics technology, and other fields have been widely used. The dissertation presented that a study on preparation and properties of the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system transparent glass-ceramics. MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system transparent glass-ceramics doped with rare-earth ion Sm3+ were synthesized by the melting method and annealing technique, TiO2 as nucleation agent. The crystallization heat-treated schedules were determined by DSC results. According to XRD curve, with the crystallization heat-treatment temperature increamed, the main phase is Mg2Al4Si5O18. The lattice parameter of main crystal phase was calculated by XRD results. It was similar to the lattice parameter of the standard sample. The mean gain size was calculated by XRD results, and it was about 10nm-20nm. The optical transmittances of the glass and glass-ceramics were measured by UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. With the increase of crystallization heat-treated temperature, the optical transmittances decreamed, even lost transparency. The sparency of the glass-ceramic can get 40%-81% in visible region, 50%-83% in near infrared region. The surface of glass-ceramics were observed by SEM. The grain size was estimated by SEM, and it was similar to the grain size of calculated by XRD results. The fluorescence spectra of the glass and glass-ceramics were measured. The fluorescent characteristics of rare-earth ion were stronger in the glass-ceramic than in the glass matrix.
