Recently, a new technology of green fine-grained solidification is got attentionincreasingly, which is the use of electrical pulse to improve the solidification of metals.The technology has been achieved in the pilot test and laboratory research and hasachieved remarkable results. Therefore, it has very important significance to study howto make the electrical pulse technology applied to industrial production of mature.In this paper, HRB400, HRB335 and HPB235 steels were got a large number ofexperiments using electrical pulse treatment in the industrial caster tundish, and withdifferent pulse voltages, pulse capacities and pulse frequencies. Then, low times, highpoweranalysis and spectral analysis were taken to examine the different parameters ofelectrical pulses applied on the microstructure and properties of steel billet.The experiment results showed that the solidification structure of the three steelswas improved with the electrical pulse treatment, and grain size refinement moreobvious, as the equiaxed grains increased, dendrites decreased. The microstructure alsochanged significantly, widmanstatten reduced and pearlite increased. At the same time,the composition segregations of the steel were ameliorated to some extent as well,including C, S, P, and the macrostructure defects of billet had improved significantly. Itis also found that the type of steel has little effect to electrical pulse treatment, verifyingthe adaptability and feasibility in other types of steel. In addition, the solidificationstructure of HRB400, HRB335 and HPB235 could be improved obviously by selectingthe electric pulse parameters properly. Experiments also confirmed the practicality of using electrical pulse equipment in continuous casting machine, which could pave theway for the application of electrical pulse technology in the large-scale casting industrialproduction.
