Wood-plastic composite (WPC) is a new material has been widely used, as flammability character of WPC, fire hazards may exists without flame retardant treatment. However, the flame retardant of wood-plastic composite have not been given sufficient attention in present. So it is important for its development to study on tne flame retardancy of WPC.Currently, the development of non-halogenated flame retardant have become a tendency. Hydroxide and phosphorus-based compound are two of non-halogenated flame retardant, are known as no-social effects of pollution flame retardants. But they may reduce the physical and mechanical properties of WPC, because of its strong polarity, poor affinity with the polymer. This article study the flame retardant of WPC with surface coating.This paper mainly studys the effect of the aluminum-magnesium series flame retardants and their synergistic additives on the physical and chemical properties and fire-retardant properties of fireproof coating, and develop halogen-free fireproof coating is the same with WPC. Also discusse flame retardant mechanism of aluminum-magnesium series flame retardants and flame retardant system.The results of this paper is as follows:(1) Filling Al(OH)3 and Mg(OH)2 individual should be adequate, if over-filled the physical and chemical properties of coatings will be low, and the char layer of coating will be burst, as a result, the fire-retardant performance of coatings has reduce. What's more, filling a lot of Al(OH)3 and Mg(OH)2 in coating can not achieve good fire-retardant properties, so Al(OH)3 and Mg(OH)2 are not suitable as a flame retardant separately. And the performance of fireproof coating filling Al(OH)3 is better than the coating filling Mg(OH)2, the best ratio between Al(OH)3 and Mg(OH)2 is2:1.(2) The article has proved MRP, EG and ZB are synergistic additives of aluminum-magnesium series flame retardant. Also study the effect of amount of synergistic additives on physical and chemical properties of the fireproof coating and fire retardant properties. And find the optimal dosage of these synergists. The best dosage of MRP is 10, EG is 15, the appropriate amount of ZB is between 5-10.(3) The result of orthogonal test showed that the effect of various factors in the fire retardant system on the fire-retardant time in the order: EG> ATH/MH> MRP> ZB. The property of flame retardant will be best when the four components in ratio of 120:10:20:8.(4) The formation of carbon layer consists of stable stage, carbonization stage and loss of carbon phase.
