Wenzhou, which is deemed as "the hometown of hundreds of crafts", has an enduring history on its wood crafts. With great amount and sofisticated skills, the carpenters from Wenzhou are known as "Wenzhou band", thriving in every corner of our country. The log furniture, commonly known as "Yuanmu jiasheng", is one of the three types of wood crafts, big wood, square timber and log. These real wood containers and utensils are once the necessities in the daily life and wed in Wenzhou people's civil life. With excellent practicability, delicate workmanship and rich adornments, they maintain the superior customs and traditions and have formed a unique traditional handcraft style. However, changes in our life style and thinking mode and the increasing scarcity in folk creation mainstay have dropped these containers and utensils out of our sight. In 2009, they were placed in the list of the third batch of the intangible cultural heritage of Zhejiang province. It has been an urgent need to have them preserved and inherited, and what is more, using modern technologies to make them integrated into our modern life.The Wenzhou log objects and utensils are a full presentation of Chinese people's wisdom. Their abundant types and styles reflect a distinctive regional culture. For these reasons, they have the potential of lighting up the fire of local design. This article analysises the science and technology applied in these real wood containers and utensils and the cultural ethics and ideas, aesthetic consciousness and creative concepts hidden behind them. The existing folk design can be theorized, acting as a role of bridging our tradition and the modern life. In this way, not only will our traditional culture be inherited and disseminated, but modern design be developed.1. This article conducts an indepth observation on "Yuanmu jiasheng", the Wenzhou log furniture, so as to make it a window in popularizing Wenzhou's traditional culture.2. Having collected and gathered plenty of pictures on Wenzhou log furniture, this article can be a relative systematic material.3. Using modern theories like semantics and morphology and by analysising the traditional log products, this article observes the national sentiment of practicability, ethics and ideas and aesthetic consciousness hidden behind them and their inspiration to modern design.4. After anlysised the traditional log products, this article puts a constructive designing rule afterward and untimately expands modern design in accordance with the condensed designing rule.5. After analysising, it comes to the conclusion that the basic forms of the log furniture are circle and octagon. The essence of its containing, just as the spirit of Wenzhou people, is being tolerant and inclusive.
