The rare earth giant magnetostrictive material is a new kind of functional material which has been developed in several years. It has the advantages of large magnetostriction, high energy density, high magnetic-mechanical coupling constant and fast response. It has been used in many high-tech fields, which include energy transfer, driving, precision positioning and reducing noise and vibration. According to the demand of subject, the testing technology of the giant magnetostrictive material and its transducer was analyzed. The research result has an important meaning for investigation and development of giant magnetostrictive transducer.This paper firstly introduces the mechanism of magnetostriction. The development and main performance of the giant magnetostrictive material were discussed. The research status and application of giant magnetostrictive transducer were summarized at home and abroad. Based on these work, the significance of this research and the main content were given.And then, the testing technology of its static magnetic parameters were discussedand analyzed. The characteristics of annular soft magnetic material samples were tested by using NIM-2000S magnetic property measurement system. In order to guarantee the measuring reliability, the characteristics of the same sample were measured many times, then the testing results were compared and the testing error was analyzed. The giant magnetostrictive material possesses large magnetostrictive characteristic, which is precondition for design of giant magnetostrictive transducer. The magnetostrictive property of the magnetostrictive material was measured and analyzed. The characteristic parameters of giant magnetostrictive bar material was determined as the basis of design of magnetostrictive transducer.Finally, the testing technology of the output characteristic for giant magnetostrictive transducer was dicussed and analyzed. It includes the transducer working principle, the testing principle of output characteristic in static and dynamic condition and the organization of testing system. The output characteristic of the transducer in different bias magnetic fields was studied in detail. The results of experiments were compared and analyzed in order to guarantee the reliability of testing results. The research results have an important meaning for the design and development of magnetostrictive transducers.
