Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) has special structure, which made it has a lot of excellent properties in chemical, mechanical, electrical and optical, etc. It can be applied to electricity, mechanical, chemistry and Biomedical. However, due to MWNTs almost insoluble in water and any organic solvent and has poor dispersion, but also has some cytotoxicity, which limits its application, we must modified the MWNTs to improve its dispersion and biocompatibility. This paper we synthesize three kinds of sugar-based surfactant to modify the surface properties of MWNTs, On the one hand to improve the dispersion of carbon nanotubes in water, on the other hand the sugar-based surfactant is typically green, low toxicity and low irritation. Thus improved the biocompatibility of MWNTs and reduced the cytotoxicity.Multi-walled carbon nanotubes have been functionalized with a new surfactant. The surfactant dissolved in alcohol solutions are used to functionalize the CNTs. It has been demonstrated that the alcohols are capable of regulating the functionalization of MWNTs. The functionalized MWNTs have been used to adsorb the proteins and show a good compatability wih the proteins.
