In the production process in order to improve product quality and reduce costs, for different melting phase (melting, oxidation, refining), the power of electric arc furnace require to maintain the arc in a different level, so arc length were requested to maintain steady. However, there are many arc length changes caused by external interference.In order to eliminate interference for maintaining more stable, we need the automatic adjustment device of electrodes. Nowadays although existing modality of automatic adjustment device are so many, such as the balance of the relay type, the electrical amplifier type, SCR-style, clutch slip, etc., due to advantages of the hydraulic servo control with fast response, high gain, frequency bandwidth, large proportion of the torque (or force) weight, the automatic adjustment in the electric furnace electrode system shows that more and more of its unique advantages. At present, there are a number of factories has been successfully applied to the production and accumulation of a lot of experience, but in this regard less of the theoretical analysis. So, in this paper, we would do some theoretical analysis.On the basis of the research of development of the electro-hydraulic servo system and its power system, the valve-controlled nonsymmetrical hydraulic cylinder servo system meeting field demand is adopted. The valve-controlled nonsymmetrical hydraulic cylinder math model which differents from the general valve-controlled symmetrical hydraulic servo system model is rebuilt with deducting and solving parameters of the system. Based on the model, the PID control methods and MATLAB/Simulink are introduced. Moreover, the simulation is accomplished. To overcome the limitation of general PID control appeared in the above analysis result, a new fuzzy auto-adapting algorithm is designed to improve the control effect of valve-controlled nonsymmetrical hydraulic cylinder. At last to improve the system dynamic characteristic.A common PID controller based on modified BP Neural Network are designed. By the simulation results indicated, both two controllers can improve the system's rapid response and high stability, and the model optimize was also realized. The PID controller based on modified BP neural network is better than the common PID controller.
